As a child in Lagos, I used to watch Japanese anime dubbed in English—stories of heroes, honor, and courage. Those animations sparked my imagination and eventually led me to study digital art in Osaka.
At first, the language barrier was intimidating. But through JAFA’s creative exchange programs, I met other African diaspora artists who shared my passion for Japanese pop culture. Together, we launched an online art series blending African storytelling with anime style—and to our surprise, it gained attention from local fans.
Last year, we exhibited our work at a cultural event hosted by JAFA. It was surreal to see Japanese visitors appreciating African-inspired anime characters. That moment reminded me that creativity has no borders.
Living in Japan has shown me that art can connect us beyond words—it’s a visual dialogue of respect and imagination.
✨ Lesson: Art is the language where all cultures understand each other.
